Duquesne's AJ Palumbo Center Becomes the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse

Adding to the growing list of Uptown buildings receiving major facelifts, Duquesne’s AJ Palumbo Center underwent a major renovation earlier this year when it became the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. The athletic facility was renamed in honor of former DU basketball star Chuck Cooper, who later went on to become the the first African-American drafted into the NBA in 1950.

The renovations added significant square footage to the building, as well as created more facilities for the university to use the Fieldhouse for events and recreation activities. The project also makes Duquesne’s campus more eco-friendly, Duquesne University President Ken Gormley said,

"This exciting renovation is an important next step in furthering one of Duquesne's key strategic initiatives. Just as Duquesne helped to build Pittsburgh at the turn of the 20th century, Duquesne now plays a central role in the development and sustainability of the city's Uptown EcoInnovation District and the entire region around us.
