LOCAL CHARACTER

From artists to accountants, life-long residents to hospital residents, Uptown is home to a diverse and ever-growing community. Walk the neighborhood and look for the ample public art on the sides of buildings and on the sidewalks, admire the historic architecture of original buildings alongside sharp new construction, or even pop into a corner bodega for the essentials before heading home. Uptown is also situated adjacent to many of the city’s hospitals, universities and sports arenas, so there’s plenty going on at any time of day or night.

UNRIVALED TRANSIT ACCESS

Just about all of the city’s bus routes pass through Uptown. Hop on a 61 or 71 for your commute to Oakland or the East End, a 28X Flyer to the Pittsburgh International Airport, and be on the lookout for planned BRT lines to get you to your destination even more quickly. If you prefer to hit the streets on foot, Uptown is also the perfect starting point for a stroll — with a Walk Score of 85+, you’ll be Downtown, South Side or Oakland in under 20 minutes flat.

fRIENDS NEW AND OLD

Uptown is poised to become one of Pittsburgh’s most up-and-coming neighborhoods, with the UPMC Mercy expansion, Lower Hill District development, more than 500 new apartments in the works and a BRT route planned right through the center of the neighborhood. But all this new doesn’t make the old any less impressive — locals love neighborhood staples like Moonlit, Merante Brothers Italian Market, Uptown Kitchen with soon to come outposts of Redhawk Coffee, Trace Brewing, Ghost Coffee Collab and stuntpig BBQ. Uptown is also home to a burgeoning tech community, with coworking spaces like Avenu at the Paramount Building and Hack Pittsburgh taking up residence and working to advance Pittsburgh’s already thriving tech scene.
